Ryleigh's First Bath...

"Baby's first bath" - I think that phrase brings mixed emotions to many first time moms - at least it did for me. I couldn't wait for Ryleigh's umbilical cord to fall off so we could give her a bath. She's almost 3 weeks old, certainly it is time for a bath, besides I simply could not wait to use the lavender smelling bath soap and lotion on her! :) At the same time, I was completely terrified of having to take on this task. So much so that when her cord came off on Friday - I decided to postpone the bath (that I have been waiting 3 weeks to give her!) until last night. We planned on doing it after we ate dinner and before one of her evening feedings. While Kyle and I ate - I was thinking (and talking) through everything I needed to set out and how we needed to go about doing this. I know you are all shocked by my level of planning for something as simple as a bath! :) Anyways, I got all the stuff out and set up and we proceeded. We had some issues at first because as any of you with kiddos know, sometimes you just need more than 2 hands. Kyle was here and was supposed to be helping - but when he came into the bathroom to "help" he had the camera. Granted, I know that it is important to get pictures of this very important event, but seriously...I needed his help! So, once we had 4 hands helping instead of just 2, it went much better! She did scream at first, but once we got out the pacifier, she calmed down a bit. Unfortunately it didn't stop her from pooping in the infant tub! When it was all said and done, I think it went pretty well - and now she smells really good (which is the part I was excited about!) Also - people aren't kidding when they say the bath helps the baby sleep. I could barely get the girl to eat the rest of night since she was so tired! I've posted some pictures below - I'm not doing much other than trying to calm her down as I was waiting for the "help" to stop taking pictures! :)

  1. No...you are not weird at all. You're planning is very normal and good. ha! I just don't think you realize how much thought has to go into those simple things before you have children. Getting her in the car, closing the stroller for the first time (and opening), the first bath, the first time you try to feed her cereal (eating should be pretty easy right? ha!),... It's a whole list of firsts that require thinking through.

  2. You may be waiting for the 'help' to put down the camera, but 18 years from now you'll be thanking him for capturing all of her firsts. :-)
