Random Updates

This post is all about randomness - so I'll apologize up front for that.  First of all, we finally got Ryleigh in to see the Dr. for her 2 year checkup.  Everything is fine - which I could have told you.  I was more wanting to see where she fell on the charts since the last checkup!  She is now 26 1/2 pounds (45%) and 34 1/4 inches long (50%).  So, we're definitely on the charts for good now I think!  The Dr. is pleased with her progress and has again informed me that she is way ahead in her verbal and cognitive skills.  She is basically doing and saying things that aren't normally expected until children are 3.  As a parent that makes me proud and scares me at the same time.  She really is like a parrot and you have to watch everything that comes out of your mouth!  :)  And its not that we talk bad at my house...but sometimes what is acceptable for adults to say just doesn't sound right coming from a 2 year old!  She's very smart and picks things up so fast, I'm just hoping she isn't that kid that will get to kindergarten and cause trouble. I guess I've still got 3 years to worry about that one.  In other news we are beginning to potty train...well, maybe I should say "attempting" to potty train.  Some days she cooperates and others she doesn't.  I've got to share the funniest story about this too.  We've explained to Ryleigh that if she actually goes potty in the potty that she gets a treat. So, the other night at my mom's Ryleigh comes running to me and says "Mom I've got to poop."  Since we're new to this thing my first instinct wasn't to run her to the bathroom.  I just kind of sat there until Kyle says "Get her to the potty Shannon!"  (Obviously a mom fail here).  So I pick her up and run back there with Kyle following me.  We're trying to get pants and diaper off and get her on the potty and when we finally get that diaper off and lift her to the potty - she goes.  Right on the floor!  Kyle and I immediately burst out laughing. Complete and utter failure on our parts, but Ryleigh was a good sport.  She smiles, looks at us and says "I pooped on the potty, I get a treat!"  Again, we burst out laughing as she obviously had no comprehension of what actually happened.  Kyle says to her, "Ryleigh you're going to have to tell Nana that you pooped on her floor."  He was kidding of course, but as I mentioned above - she's a parrot, so she proceeds to yell, yes I said yell.  "Nana, I pooped on the floor, I get a treat!"  Mercy, I don't think you could contain the laughter in that house at this point.  Poor kid, bless her heart, she's trying!  I'm thinking maybe I should forget potty training and work on taking away the sass (pacifiers) first!

In other random updates, this weekend we took Ryleigh to White Water with my parents.  Yes I realize that in the big scheme of things, she's really not old enough to enjoy or remember White Water, but we all wanted to go anyways.  I think overall she had a pretty good time.  She was able to float the lazy river with us and ride one ride where up to 4 people can go down a slide in a big circle raft.  She wasn't too crazy about that one at first and I wish I had taken a camera to get a picture. Her face was priceless.  She didn't cry really, but was in complete shock.  When we got out we asked her if she like it and she tentatively said yes, but when we asked if she wanted to do it again she definitively said no!  So like good and decent parents we all rode again anyways and this time we sent her down with Nana and Papa!  :)  She also got to go in the wave pool, which was by far her favorite part of the day.  She wasn't too fond of the kiddie pool but that could be because the water was freezing!  She even managed to take a nap on a lounge chair.  She did really great today. We're so blessed to have such an easy going child. We drag her everywhere and she usually just goes with the flow.  Hope that continues as she gets older!

That's all the randomness I have for now.  Next weekend Allison and Brian are coming down to visit while my parents go out of town. So, I'm sure I'll have a whole new set of stories to blog about then!
